SDCC 2025 Comic News: New Series and Creative Teams

The final day of San Diego Comic Con 2025 is upon us and there’s still plenty of news to discuss. It seems there’s been a boost of comic excitement at SDCC in recent years. This has been evidenced by the increase of comic related announcements coming from the convention. Not to be outdone by BOOM! Studios’ Marian Heretic title, other publishers had plenty to share as well.

Starting with Marvel, they’re adding another entry in their crossover battles with the Aliens. In Alien vs. Captain America, Writer Frank Tieri and artist Stefano Raffaele lead Captain America through WW2 Europe as Red Skull, Baron Strucker and Hydra look to weaponize the famed movie monsters. Look for Bucky and the Howling Commandos in the fight against evil when this four issue series hits shelves November 5, 2025.

IDW has shared that a new creative team will be taking over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. With issue #13, writer Gene Luen Yang and artist Freddie E. Williams II lead the TMNT against a deadly new assassin. Come December, readers will get to see years of passion unfold as the new team takes charge.

From there, we jump to DC Comics and Top Cow for more new series. The addition of the Emerald Archer to the Absolute line is sure to generate some buzz. Stemming from his debut in October’s Absolute Evil event, we’ll get to see Oliver Queen take on his billionaire counterparts in Absolute Green Arrow. This six issue series written by Pornsak Pichetshote and drawn by Rafael Albuquerque will launch in spring of 2026.

Over at Top Cow, Marc Silvestri is penning the return of mob hitman Jackie Estacado in The Darkness. Scheduled for a December release, this series will be penciled by fellow industry veteran Ed Benes. The publisher showed off a preview book available at SDCC as part of the announcement.

This is only a portion of the updates coming out of SDCC 2025. Stay tuned as I dive into all the comic news and more as the convention winds down.
