Remembering Trina Robbins and Paul Neary

*Editor’s note: This piece was originally set to be uploaded in 2024 when they passed, but wasn’t. However, it’s never too late to honor those in the comic industry.

The world of comics lost several important figures in 2024. One of those was Trina Robbins. An inspiration and pioneer in the underground comix scene, she also advocated for changing the perception and treatment of women in the realm of comics.

Among Trina’s work were It Ain’t Me, Babe, Wimmen’s Comix and co-founding the Friends of Lulu organization. Spanning much of her life, her career highlights included many anthologies with the aim of encouraging more girls and women to get involved in comics. She was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2013. She was 85.

Another industry talent lost was Paul Neary. While he took on several roles in comics, he was well known for inking and being editor-in-chief of Marvel U.K. in the ‘90s. A title he held until the imprint was shut down.

Beyond his Marvel work, he also worked with 2000 A.D., DC Comics and Warren Publishing. Some of the titles he’s credited on include Future Shocks, Eerie, Doctor Who Weekly, Hulk Comic and Warrior. He passed away at the age of 74.
