New Comic Shop Visit: Gods & Monsters in Orlando

After checking out Coliseum of Comics, the other recent addition to my Comic Shop Tour was Gods & Monsters. This store has won “Best Comic Book Shop in Orlando” multiple times. While an individual’s mileage may vary when it comes to the ideal comic shop, and certainly what the “best” one would be, the fact this even exists should be appreciated.

First, this is where the community shines and smaller, local spots get some spotlight. And secondly, any time a comic shop can get some positive attention, it should be acknowledged. Head over to Orlando Weekly to see their other picks for Best Comic Book Shop in Orlando.

This store was stacked with collectibles, including older toys I haven’t seen since the 90s. While I wasn’t able to get much footage of the shop, I did want to get a short look at the front where most of the comics are located. Beyond comics, this store carried toys and other collectibles, stickers, video games and more. That’s not even including the bar, Vault 5421.

I enjoy visiting new comic shops and have been to many around the U.S. In an effort to support local comic shops, I always come away with something. For my haul, I picked up a mix of recent releases and back issues. This included a run of Wonder Woman issues from the 2006 series.

They kept a majority of their older and more expensive back issues in bins behind the counter. I understand keeping higher ticket books beyond easy reach, but I’m not a fan of having to ask to browse each bin. I can imagine that would discourage some collectors from bothering at all.

With more time, I’d have ventured out to see what other shops had to offer. When exploring comic shops, the back issue sections are the major draw for me. As always, I’m open to suggestions for fantastic comic shops to visit. Feel free to share some and your experiences.
