5 Personal Goals as a Comic Fan for 2023

We’re a week into the new year and I’ll say, with full transparency, I’m typically not ready to begin discussing goals for the year ahead this early. But here’s to progress. With that said, here’s a short list of some goals I have as a comics fan for 2023.

5. Produce more content, grow, etc.

Let’s start with the reason we’re here. This one is more all-encompassing and why I chose to lump it together. I want to be more active across all the platforms I use, producing more (and varied) content, interacting more and continue my growth as a content creator.

It isn’t necessarily growth as in just having more numbers for the sake of having more numbers. But I view growth as evolving as a blogger and voice in the comic book community. An example being that I made strides towards this last year when I upgraded this blog to increase my storage space as well as switch to a personal domain to drop the "wordpress.com" from the URL.

Another is I want to help more people who are either new to or are returning to comics. I have a Tips for Comic Book Fans playlist dedicated to this exact notion. I want to add to that as well as have more on this blog.

4. Complete my cataloguing and reorganization project.

This list almost began with this entry as it’s the easiest to quantify. This has been a long-term project I started in 2022 and serves a few purposes. One, I use League of Comic Geeks to catalog my comic collection and had been adding to that whenever I received new comics. That works until you fall behind. Which I did...by a lot. Plus, there were quite a few books that weren’t in their system that have been updated. Previously, I’d kept a paper list of those issues. This time around, I’ve made it digital and thus, easier to update. Progress, people.

Secondly, it’s for insurance purposes. That’s about as short and sweet as it gets.

Finally, with a sizable number of comics I no longer want in my collection, this is a step towards downsizing. I’m going to go back to selling as well as giving comics away. For that, I need to know what all I have and what can go. And when it’s gone, I know what to remove from my inventory.

3. Do more reviews.

I’ve done reviews of comics and action figures in the past, in both written and video formats. The added element of YouTube shorts and Instagram’s various methods presents some intriguing possibilities for reviews that I’d like to explore.

2. Interview creators.

Interacting with more comic creators is an idea I’ve held on to for some time. Unfortunately, it’s the alignment of multiple individual’s schedules that makes it the most difficult item on this list. Difficult, as far as anything related to being a comics blogger can be. Also, certainly FAR from unachievable. I have a growing list of people in the world of comics I’d like to connect with and have reached out to some. Again, schedules. Here’s hoping I can make it happen in 2023.

1. READ. MORE. COMICS.

We’ve reached the most important item of all. I just want to read more comics. That’s it. There’s a meme that’s floated around about how buying, reading and adding books to your to be read list are all three different hobbies. I felt that one deep. I mentioned this in a video last year about the Costs of Collecting Comics in 2022 when I said “time” was an understated cost associated with being a comics fan. You spend time reading comics, hunting for comics and researching comics, characters, creators and storylines. All fun, but it’s a lot of time. Which, of course, we’d rather not spend doing anything else. So, here’s to soaking up more sweet comic book goodness.

What are some early goals you have in mind relating to comics for the year? Here’s to a great 2023. Let’s have some fun. Happy reading, happy hunting and happy collecting!
